Long time... No post.

First things first: Sorry! I have been horribly neglecting this blog in favor of my instagram and facebook pages! But I'm going to try to get back into the swing of posting! Now then! What have you missed? Let's find out!

First things first... I've been jumping around to different media and mediums like crazy! This was actually one of the last pieces that I did in acrylic for quite a while!
Anyways, meet Anthea! She is a lost girl, looking for a friend in the flower fields by her house. Will she find one?
This painting is the only one I've done so far on a wood plaque intended for wood-burning, and I love it! I named it, "Blossoming Anthea".

 Next, I moved on to oils, this was the first thing I painted using my limited palette ('cause red, blue, yellow, white, and brown were pretty much all I could afford)... I was rather pleased with her once she was done as seen in the first picture (and no, I didn't use any reference). However, I felt like I could liven it up a bit, that it was slightly muddy and/or flat, so I grabbed my paintbrushes and started adding to her, resulting in the second look!

 Over here is my first ever attempt at a lower angle; the idea was to paint a woman who thought she was better than you, always sticking her chin up in the air and looking down at you. The first go/couple of layers looked much too serene, what with her eyes closed and the light makeup, so, as seen next, I changed her quite a bit! The result was almost drag-ish, which just made me love it more!
I struggled naming her... My first thought was to quote Alaska with the ever iconic, "Your makeup is terrible," since her makeup was clearly superior to even my own, however, I felt that was a bit much, so I eventually named her, "Perhaps..." As that was what I felt like she was saying.

Next, I tried underpainting with oils... and that was a good lesson for me as, while the underpainting was beautiful, I tried to glaze with liquin, thus ruining the whole painting... I struggled a lot with trying to fix my mistake, but nothing could be done, so I pretty much just painted a whole new, not as good painting of my doll (who was my model for the underpainting).

Whilst on the topic of my dolls, I also painted my boy, Sasha again. I captured his hair and eyes beautifully, but everything else? Not up to the level of those two things.

Here, I had grabbed a deco trifold-ish set of canvases, and decided to paint a face. Once again, I could not resist the heavy 'Drag Queen' makeup... Overall, I like this piece, I think that she's very pretty, and I was happy with how I had mixed her skintone, as it was my first time mixing dark skin in oils with that limited palette!

This one is the most recent, and I think it shows... This was when something clicked in my brain and I realized that shading faces was not as hard as I had been making it. It's not so different from applying bronzer/contour and blush.

All in all, I love this piece and felt like it was one of my best!

I named it, "Among Nature".
